Dimuth 77, Nuwan Pradeep 4/34 as Sri Lanka crushes Scotland to break ODI drought

Sri Lanka sounded the winning board by 35 runs on the DLS method against Scotland in the second ODI breaking its eight match ODI drought with skipper Dimuth Karunaratne leading from the front with a workmanlike 77 and youth find Avishka Fernando striking 74 in a 123-run alliance for the first wicket at Grange Edinburgh on Tuesday. Sri Lanka lose to South Africa by 87 runs in warm up match

Having opted to chase, Sri Lanka went down to South Africa by 87 runs in the second warm up match ahead of the 2019 ICC World Cup at the Sophia Gardens at Cardiff after the opposition had posted an imposing 338 for 7 wickets on Friday. Sri Lanka were all out for 251 off 42.3 overs. The chips down in the face of the huge South African total bolstered by a top score of 88 by skipper F. du Plessis off 64 balls as Sri Lanka’s bowlers faltered, the run chase was not helped by the fall of regular wickets and despite a splendid captain’s knock of 87 off 92 balls by Dimuth Karunaratne upfront and a valiant 64 off… Read More →25 May 2019
Thisara Perera commands pinch-hitting all-round ability

ICC 2019 WORLD CUP Thisara Perera’s pinch-hitting all-round ability with bat and ball makes him a potential ace in the pack of Sri Lanka’s campaign of the upcoming 2019 ICC World Cup in England. Despite a low key performance in the mega domestic Super Provincial Limited Over Tournament that was the final lead up to world cup selections his inclusion is an indication of the national selectors faith in the inherent talent of the all-rounder to change the complexion of a game at any given time particularly with the bat. The 30-year old left hander’s brute hitting as a lower middle order batsman has been a specialty that has earned the Sri Lankan international recognition that has seen the former… Read More →14 May 2019
Back among the wickets, Lasith Malinga decisive to SL World Cup campaign

The reemergence of Lasith Malinga not so long ago from hibernation when there were whispers that his career was good as over has been somewhat magical. What took the cake in that comeback was the reinstallation of Malinga to wear the big mantle captaining the ODI side. Since then if his early foray was nominal with a couple of wicket taking bursts in the early overs the unorthodox sidearm wizard with the ball during his heyday has progressively thundered his way on the comeback trail. Malinga did not get the desired support from his bowlers, and fielders with dropped catches off his bowling proving costly when Sri Lanka made a disastrous exit from the 2018 Asia Cup at the hands… Read More →13 May 2019
